If your shooter wobbles, leaks, or just refuses to sit right… it's not "bad luck", fam — it's usually the wrong joint size.

Most setups fall into two common sizes: 14mm and 19mm. This guide shows you how to figure out what you have in under 60 seconds, and how to buy the right shooter the first time.

First — what's a "shooter" anyway?

A shooter (also called a bowl piece) is the removable part that sits in your bong's joint and holds your mix.

If you've got a glass bong, the shooter is usually the piece you remove to clear the chamber. Browse our Glass Bong collection to find your fit.

14mm vs 19mm shooter joint size guide for weed bong

Quick note:

  • Shooter size = joint size (the part where shooter meets bong)
  • If the size is wrong, you get air leaks, wobble, or it won't fit at all

14mm vs 19mm — what's the real difference?

14mm shooter

  • More common on compact + mid-size bongs
  • Lighter feel, smaller opening
  • Great for everyday, easy handling

19mm shooter

  • Common on bigger / heavier bongs
  • Wider opening + chunkier fit
  • Feels more "locked in" on larger pieces

TBBC standard sizes: 14mm & 19mm (not 18mm).

How to tell your bong joint size (fast)

Method 1: Check your existing shooter (best)

If you already have a shooter that fits perfectly:

  • Look for size markings (sometimes etched/printed)
  • If no marking, compare the joint visually: 19mm is noticeably wider

Method 2: Measure the joint opening (simple)

You're measuring the diameter of the joint opening (the part the shooter goes into).

  • Around 14mm = 14mm joint
  • Around 19mm = 19mm joint

Method 3: Send a photo (zero stress)

If you don't want to measure:

  • Take a clear photo of your bong joint + shooter next to a coin/ruler
  • Send it to TBBC support and we'll confirm the size

Male vs female joints (don't skip this)

This is where most people get cooked.

  • Female joint (most common): the bong has the "socket" and the shooter goes into it
  • Male joint: the bong has the "stem" and the shooter fits over it

Rule: You need the right size + joint type for a perfect seal.

What happens if you use the wrong size shooter?

  • Wobble = annoying + risky for glass
  • Air leaks = weak pull + messy experience
  • Doesn't sit flush = higher chance of accidental drops
  • You end up buying twice (pain)

Which one should you buy? (quick decision guide)

Choose 14mm if:

  • Your bong is small/medium
  • Your current shooter looks slimmer
  • You want a more compact setup

Choose 19mm if:

  • Your bong is larger/heavier
  • You want a wider opening
  • Your joint looks noticeably wider than typical

Still unsure? Don't guess. Send a photo and we'll confirm.

Recommended add-ons (because a shooter alone isn't the full scene)

FAQs

Is 18mm the same as 19mm?
In many places you'll see "18mm" used casually, but TBBC uses 14mm & 19mm sizing. If you're unsure, measure or send a photo.

Can I use a 14mm shooter in a 19mm joint (or vice versa)?
Not properly. It'll either not fit, wobble, or leak air. Get the exact match.

How do I measure without tools?
Use a ruler scale on your phone screen, or place a coin next to the joint and take a photo—then message support.

Do bigger bongs always use 19mm?
Often, but not always. Size depends on the model, not just height.

Should I keep a spare shooter?
Yes — especially if you host. It's the easiest "backup part" to save a night.
